What we treat · Back pain
Help for back pain, in Townsville.
A back that's seized after a lift, an ache that's settled in from too many desk hours, or pain that just won't let up — it's the most common thing through my door. We settle the muscle, calm the pain, and work out what's setting it off.
What helps
Back pain usually responds best to a mix — calming the pain with acupuncture, and releasing the overloaded muscle by hand.
How I approach it
Treating the back — and what's loading it.
Most back pain isn't one thing. It's a tight, guarding muscle, an irritated nerve, and a pattern of load that keeps feeding it. I look at all three.
Acupuncture calms the pain signal and lets a guarding muscle switch off; hands-on work and dry needling release the tissue directly; and we sort out what's setting it off, so it stops coming back. I'll be honest about what I think we can shift, and how long it's likely to take.
I don't just chase the sore spot — I look for what keeps loading it, so we're not back here in a month.

Good to know
Common questions
Can acupuncture really help back pain?
It's one of the more commonly used approaches for it, and many people get good relief — but I'll always give you an honest read on your particular back rather than a blanket promise.
Should I see a doctor first?
If you've had a serious injury, or you have numbness, weakness, or any loss of bladder or bowel control, see your GP or go to hospital first. For the everyday aches and strains, you can book directly.
How many sessions will I need?
Acute back pain can settle in a few visits; a long-standing pattern takes a short course. I'll give you an honest estimate after the first visit.
Will it be gentle?
Yes — I work to your comfort and back off if something's too much. The aim is relief, not toughing it out.
Can I claim it on private health?
Yes, where your extras cover acupuncture or remedial massage — HICAPS lets you claim on the spot and pay only the gap.
