Cupping

What it's good for

Cupping is at its best on tight, tired backs and shoulders, and for winding down an overworked body.

What it is

Suction that lets the tissue breathe.

Cupping uses soft suction to gently lift the skin and the fascia beneath it — the opposite direction to a massage, which presses down. That lift draws fresh circulation in and helps tight, stuck tissue let go.

I use both fixed cups and gliding cups over oiled skin. It leaves round, painless marks for a few days — they're not bruises, just the sign of that circulation coming through, and they fade on their own. Cupping sits naturally alongside acupuncture or a remedial massage.

The cups pull where hands push — they reach tension from the other side.

What a session's like

On, release, rest.

  1. We talk

Where you're tight, and how you're feeling.

  2. Oil & place

The cups go on the areas that need it.

  3. Suction or glide

Fixed cups for a deep release, gliding cups to cover more ground.

  4. Rest

A few quiet minutes while the tissue softens.

  5. Aftercare

The marks fade in days; a little water and warmth helps.

Good to know

Common questions

Do the marks hurt? Are they bruises?

No — they're painless, and they're not bruises. They're a normal sign of circulation drawn to the surface, and they fade over a few days.

Does the cupping itself hurt?

It's a firm pulling sensation rather than pain, and most people find it genuinely relaxing.

What's it good for?

Tight, tired backs and shoulders, general tension, and helping an overworked body recover.

Can I claim it on private health?

Yes, where it is part of a covered acupuncture or remedial massage session. HICAPS is available to claim on the spot.

How often should I have it?

As needed — some people have it now and then for tension, others alongside regular treatment. I'll give you an honest steer.
